The 2010 Readathon for Hunger

On November 13th, help eliminate hunger just by reading! Pick up a newspaper, read an online article, check out a cookbook, investigate the latest novel or e-book. Whatever your preference, signing up for the 2010 Readathon ensures you will make a difference.

We know the statistics: each day, in the United States alone, millions of people suffer from hunger, or are at risk of going hungry, many of whom are children. When one considers the magnitude of this concept, as well as the idea that countless other people encounter it regularly and needlessly across the globe, it becomes obvious why action and awareness are needed.

Poverty and hunger are at the root of many issues, including violence, illiteracy, and serious, preventable health problems. Fortunately, there are many institutions that are trying to eradicate this issue, but with the struggling economy, they, too, are suffering.

Do your part to end the hunger cycle: commit to reading a certain amount of hours on Saturday, November 13th. Here's how it works: leave a comment indicating the number of hours you pledge to read. For each hour you commit to read, you also commit to giving either $1 OR one non-perishable food item to a food pantry near you. And don't forget to invite others to participate!

Read anything and read to anyone: the kids, the pets, yourself. Help ring in National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week November 14-20 by participating in the 2010 Readathon. Whether you pledge to read one hour or 24 hours, you are guaranteed to make a difference!
